MacroAsia Catering Services
MacroAsia Catering Services, Inc. (MACS), is the first fully functional In-flight Catering facility located inside the premises of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila, Philippines.
It was incorporated on October 18, 1996. After two years of continuous planning, preparation and construction, it started its commercial operations on August 9, 1998, with Air Macau and Singapore Airlines as its first customers.
Its strength as a business entity is founded on the solid partnership of two (2) highly reputable and progressive companies: MacroAsia Corporation (Philippines), and SATS Ltd (Singapore)
MacroAsia Corporation (MAC) is a publicly listed Filipino corporation basically in the business of Aviation Support Services. As the major partner, it has a stake of 80% in MACS. Being physically closest to MACS, as the other owners are based abroad, MacroAsia Corporation provides immediate support to MACS, in any contingency.
SATS Ltd has several other joint venture kitchens spread out all over Asia. It holds 20% ownership in MACS. As a strong aviation service player in the Asia-Pacific region, it actively provides technical support to MACS, and also serves as a vital player in the raw materials supply chain of MACS.
The synergies derived from the formidable partnership and support of the shareholders is the strength behind MACS! And today, only ten years from the start of its commercial operations, MACS has the distinction of being the only airline caterer in the Philippines to be HACCP Certified (Cert. No. CIP/3486/04/08/379 issued on August 20, 2004), in addition to holding an ISO 9001:2000 Certificate (Cert. No. CI/1955Q-UKAS 063) from Certification International and HALAL certificate (Cert. Code OMA-PHCRA 001) from the Office on Muslim Affairs.
In 2002, the Company embarked on a challenge of a different nature. MACS diversified from its core business or airline catering and pursued the area of institutional accounts. This proved to be successful with the acquisition of its first Institutional account, Gloria Jean’s Coffees. This was followed by Taco Bell and then by 01 September 2005, MACS commenced servicing the Lufthansa Technik Philippines (LTP) staff canteen.
2003 was a historical year for MACS wherein it was able to establish its place as market leader in the catering industry in Manila, capturing 38% of the market in terms of number of flights serviced. MACS likewise obtained the number one spot in terms of number of meals catered at 40% for the same year.
In June 2004, MACS operated the Sampaguita Lounge at the NAIA. What was previously for first and business class passengers only, MACS reopened the lounge into a pay-as-you-enter lounge, providing amenities along with light snacks, rice meals and beverages.
To date, MACS continues to maintain its position as the most preferred airline caterer and market leader in the Philippines since the start of its operations in 1998.
Truly, MACS has lived up to the distinction as the preferred airline caterer at NAIA, which consistently gives its clients worry-free operations, and service at world-class standards.
